Five Stroke Roll

The Five Stroke Roll (#7 of the 40 P.A.S. certified essential or standard rudiments) is a five note pattern which consists of two unaccented Double Strokes and one accented Single Stroke. Exercises

7a

This exercise shows the Five Stroke Roll in triple meter. We permutate the pattern so it starts on the accent. This should feel like the triplet pattern where you play singles in triplets accenting the quarter note (Control Strokes: Down - Up - Tap - Down - Up - Tap) and then double the unaccented notes.

If you want to learn more about Control Strokes or Dynamics in general check out C4 and/or S4 in Level 1.
