How to Set Up a Google Account and Upload a Private YouTube Video

This tutorial will show you how to create a Google Account (which you need for YouTube) and then upload a video to YouTube so only you and your drum teacher can watch it.

Part 1: Setting Up Your Google Account

If you already have a Google Account (like a Gmail address), you can skip to Part 2!

1. Go to the Google Account Creation Page:

   • Open your internet browser (like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).
   • Type accounts.google.com/signup into the address bar and press Enter.

2. Fill in Your Information:

   • You'll see a form asking for your details.
   • First name and Last name: Put your real name here.
   • Username: This will be the first part of your new Gmail address (e.g., if you choose drummerdude, your email will be [email protected]). Try to pick something easy to remember but also unique. Google will tell you if someone else already has that username.
   • Password: Choose a strong password that you can remember. It should be at least 8 characters long and mix letters, numbers, and symbols (like !@#$%). Write it down somewhere safe if you think you'll forget it!
   • Confirm password: Type your password again to make sure you didn't make a mistake.

3. Click "Next."

4. Enter More Information (Optional but Recommended):

   • Phone number (optional): It's a good idea to add a phone number. This helps Google make sure it's really you if you ever forget your password or if someone tries to hack your account.
   • Recovery email address (optional): If you have another email address, add it here for the same reasons as the phone number.
   • Your birthday: Make sure to put your real birthday.
   • Gender: You can choose to specify or not.

5. Click "Next."

6. Review Google's Privacy and Terms:

   • Read through these carefully. It's important to understand how Google uses your information.
   • Scroll to the bottom and click "I agree" to finish setting up your account.

   You now have a Google Account! This account works for all Google services, including YouTube.

Part 2: Uploading a Private Video to YouTube

Now that you have a Google Account, you can upload your drum video!

1. Go to YouTube:

   • Open your internet browser.
   • Type youtube.com into the address bar and press Enter.

2. Sign In to YouTube:

   • In the top right corner of the YouTube page, you'll see a "Sign in" button. Click on it.
   • Enter the Gmail address and password you just created (or your existing Google Account details).

3. Click the "Create" Button:

   • Once you're signed in, look for a small camera icon with a plus sign inside it, usually in the top right corner. It might be labeled "Create". Click on it.
   • A menu will pop up. Choose "Upload video".

4. Select Your Video File:

   • A new page will open. You'll see a big blue button that says "SELECT FILES". Click on it.
   • Find the video file of your drum playing on your computer or device. It might be in your "Videos" folder, "Downloads" folder, or wherever you saved it.
   • Click on your video file and then click "Open" (or "Choose").

5. Fill in Video Details (Important for Privacy!):

   • Details Tab:

     • Title: Give your video a clear title, like "My Drum Practice - Song Name - [Your Name]".
     • Description: You can add a short description if you want, like "First video for drum lessons."
     • Thumbnail: YouTube will suggest some pictures from your video. Pick one you like, or you can upload your own.
     • Audience: THIS IS IMPORTANT! You must choose: "No, it's not made for kids." Even if it's a drum video, YouTube has specific rules for "Made for Kids" content that will make it harder to share privately.

   • Visibility Tab:

     • After you click "Next" from the "Details" tab, you'll go through "Video elements," then "Checks," and finally the "Visibility" tab. This is where you set the privacy.
     • You'll see options like "Public," "Unlisted," and "Private."
     • Choose "Private." This is the key setting!
       
       • Private means only you and people you specifically invite can watch the video.
       • Unlisted means anyone with the link can watch it (not what you want here).
       • Public means everyone can watch it (definitely not what you want!).

6. Sharing Your Private Video and Getting the Link (No Unnecessary Notifications for Teacher!):

   • When you choose "Private", you will see a box appear where you can enter email addresses to "Share privately."

   • Crucially, when you type in your drum teacher's email address, YouTube often gives you an option like "Notify via email" (it might be a checkbox). MAKE SURE THIS BOX IS UNCHECKED or that you do NOT click it.

     • If you simply enter the email address and then click "Done" or "Save" without checking a "Notify" box, YouTube will grant access to your teacher's account but generally won't send a separate notification email from YouTube itself. Your teacher will only be able to view the video once they try to access the link you provide in your form.

   • After you've added your teacher's email (without notification) and clicked "Done" or "Save" for the sharing settings, you'll be brought back to the main upload screen or a summary screen.

   • IMPORTANT: Copying the Video Link!

     • On this screen, you will see a "Video link" or "Shareable link" displayed.
     • Next to this link, there will be a small "Copy" button (it often looks like two overlapping squares). Click this button!
     • This will copy the special link to your video to your computer's clipboard.

7. Save Your Video:

   • After you've set the visibility to "Private," granted access to your teacher's email (without notification), and copied the link, click the "Save" button at the bottom right.

   YouTube will now process and upload your video. This might take a few minutes depending on how long your video is and your internet speed.

Part 3: Pasting Your Video Link into the Feedback Form

1. Go to Your Feedback Form:

   • Open your internet browser and go to the "Feedback Form" or "SDL Ultimate Membership Application Form" where you need to paste the link.

2. Find the Link Field:

   • Look for a box or field that says something like "Video Link," "YouTube Link," or "Paste your video URL here."

3. Paste the Link:

   • Click your mouse cursor into that box.
   • Right-click with your mouse and choose "Paste" from the menu that pops up.
   • Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + V (on Windows) or Command + V (on Mac) on your keyboard.

4. Complete and Submit the Form:

   • Fill in any other required information on the form.
   • Click the "Submit" button when you're done.

That's it! Now your drum video is safely uploaded to YouTube, only you and your drum teacher can watch it (when they click the link from your form), and you've successfully shared the link where it needs to go without sending extra YouTube notifications.
