Rudiment #3

Single Stroke 7

The Single Stroke Seven (#3 of the 40 P.A.S. certified essential or standard rudiments) is a rudiment based on the Single Stroke Roll. It is comprised of two sixteenth note triplets (one sextuplet) and a quarter note.

This one offers us a great incentive to start differentiating between triplets and 16th notes because it can be used equally well in either subdivision. And it offers some great possibilities on the drums.

In the second variation (3b) we go back to playing the SS7 as a sextuplet (a.k.a. two 16th note tripelts). This time we play it in a 3/8. This one is more efficient than the original and also very cool to use a sa fill in a 6/8 groove (Level 1 G6).
